Washington Redskins vs. Minnesota Vikings 2019: Prediction Against The Spread, Odds For Week 8

For the second straight week, “Thursday Night Football” could feature a one-sided game that gets out of hand early. The Minnesota Vikings will host the Washington Redskins to kick off the Week 8 schedule, forcing the NFC’s worst team to visit one of the conference’s top contenders.

Minnesota defeated the Detroit Lions 42-30 Sunday afternoon, making them one of nine NFL teams that sits at least three games above .500. Washington was shut out at home 9-0 by the San Francisco 49ers, keeping them tied with the Atlanta Falcons in the basement of the NFC.

The Redskins’ only victory came in Week 6 when they narrowly defeated the winless Miami Dolphins. Miami was a two-point conversion away from upsetting Washington.

The Vikings are one of the hottest teams in football. Minnesota is on a three-game winning streak, defeating each of their opponents by at least 12 points during that span.

It Could Happen

According to the early betting line at OddsShark, the Vikings are favored over the Redskins by 15.5 points at home. The over/under is 42.

The New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles and Lions have all been on the wrong end of Minnesota’s hot streak. They aren’t exactly among the league’s best teams since all three enter Week 8 with losing records.

Washington isn’t as good as any of those three teams, making it likely that Minnesota will have another easy win.

The Redskins were unable to beat the Giants or Eagles, losing to New York by 21 points and needing a meaningless touchdown in the final seconds to suffer a five-point defeat to Philadelphia. Three of Washington’s last four losses have come by 16 points or more. Poor weather and field conditions played a role in both the 49ers and Redskins being held without a Week 7 touchdown.

San Francisco doesn’t have an offense like Minnesota. Averaging 36 points during their undefeated streak, the Vikings rank sixth in both scoring offense and total offense. Minnesota is third in the NFL in yards per play.

Dalvin Cook leads the NFL with 725 rushing yards. His 5.5 yards per carry are first among the 13 players with at least 99 attempts.

Cook has rushed for at least 110 yards in five of Minnesota’s seven games. Washington is 27th in rushing defense and 21st in opponents’ yards per rush.

Kirk Cousins has posted better numbers than most quarterbacks. Believe it or not, Cousins leads the NFL with a 114.3 passer rating and 9.1 yards per attempt. He’s fifth with a 69.8 completion percentage and 17 quarterbacks have been sacked more times.

A hamstring injury might keep Adam Thielen sidelined. After the wide receiver left Sunday’s game in the first quarter, the Vikings still managed to put up 35 more points.

Washington hasn’t scored more than 16 points in five straight games. They were held to seven points or fewer in three of those contests.

Visiting teams have failed to score more than 20 points in all three games at U.S. Bank Stadium in 2019. Minnesota’s defense is too good for the Redskins to be competitive in this game.

The Vikings are 6-1 against the spread in their last seven home games.

Prediction: Minnesota over Washington, 33-13

Thursday Night Football odds: Broncos vs. Chiefs picks, predictions from expert who's 5-1 on Denver games

Two AFC West rivals heading in opposite directions square off on Thursday Night Football when the Kansas City Chiefs meet the Denver Broncos at Mile High. After starting the season 4-0, the Chiefs (4-2) have dropped consecutive games to the Colts and Texans. Despite the two-game losing streak, Kansas City still leads the AFC West by a half-game over the Raiders. Meanwhile, the Broncos (2-4) have won two straight over the Chargers and Titans after opening the season with four consecutive losses. Denver is in its first season under coach Vic Fangio, and kickoff is set for 8:20 p.m. ET. Kansas City is a three-point favorite in the latest Broncos vs. Chiefs odds, and the over-under for total points scored is 48.5. Before you make any Chiefs vs. Broncos picks, you should see who SportsLine senior analyst Larry Hartstein is backing.

A former lead writer for Covers and The Linemakers, Hartstein combines a vast network of Vegas sources with an analytical approach he honed while working for Pro Football Focus. Last year, he went 61-47 on all of his NFL picks, and he's even hotter this year, going 24-11 with his NFL picks against the spread. In addition, Hartstein is a stunning 5-1 in his last six against the spread picks involving the Broncos. Anyone who has followed him is way up.

Now, Hartstein has locked in on Chiefs vs. Broncos on Thursday Night Football. He's sharing his pick only at SportsLine.

Hartstein knows that Kansas City has dominated the series against Denver recently, winning seven straight games. The average score in those games has been 29-20. Kansas City hasn't lost to Denver since September 2015, when the Broncos won 31-24.

Hartstein also has taken into consideration that the Chiefs have All-Pro receiver Tyreek Hill back in the lineup. In his first game back after missing four games because of injury, Hill had five receptions for 80 yards and two touchdowns on Sunday against the Texans. He makes Kansas City's prolific offense even more explosive.

Even so, Kansas City isn't guaranteed to cover the Chiefs vs. Broncos spread on Thursday Night Football.

Denver is playing winning defense right now. During the team's two-game winning streak, the Broncos allowed opponents an average of 225.0 yards per game and 6.5 points. In Sunday's shutout of the Titans, Denver held Tennessee to 39 rushing yards, 3.3 net yards per play and 2-of-14 on third downs.

In addition the Broncos will face a Chiefs defense that has struggled stopping the run. Kansas City is allowing 161.8 rushing yards per game, and only the Dolphins and Bengals have been worse this season. That bodes well for a Denver offense that ranks 14th in the NFL in rushing at 116.0 yards per game.

We can tell you Hartstein is leaning Under, but his much stronger play is on the spread. He says a critical x-factor makes one side of this spread a must-back. You can only see what it is, and who to back, at SportsLine.

Following two straight victories, the Denver Broncos (2-4) now set their sights on the team most people feel is the best team in the AFC West: the Kansas City Chiefs (4-2). Of course, many of those thoughts may have changed after watching the Chiefs lose their last two games.

These two teams are trending in opposite directions, but if there is one team in the league the Broncos have struggled against for years, it is the Chiefs. In fact, Kansas City has won the last seven games against the Broncos, dating back to September 2015.

The Broncos have lost the last seven against the Chiefs, but the games have been competitive, including last season when the Chiefs were aiming for a Super Bowl and the Broncos couldn’t get out of their own way.

The Chiefs beat the Broncos by four points and seven points in two games last year and the Broncos could have easily won at least one of those contests.

This game will take place on Thursday Night Football, putting the showdown in the national spotlight in primetime.

These two teams have had some classic matchups on primetime television over the years including last year when Patrick Mahomes completed a left-handed pass that stole the game from Denver and will appear on highlight reels for years to come.

There was also the classic duel between John Elway and Joe Montana on Monday Night Football back in October 1994.

If the Broncos can snap the current seven-game losing streak they have against the Chiefs this Thursday night, it could easily alter the trajection for the rest of the season for both teams.

It would be a third consecutive loss for the Chiefs and a third consecutive win for the Broncos. That would change up anyone’s predictions for the eventual outcome of the AFC West race.

Kansas City leads the all-time series 63-55.

Kickoff is set for 6:20 p.m. MT. The game will be televised on both Fox and NFL Network. Joe Buck and Troy Aikman will serve as commentators.

Giants vs. Patriots Betting Line See Largest Thursday Night Point Spread In History

The Patriots and Giants have collided in some of the league’s most historic matchups, but their Week 6 Thursday Night pairing is looking to once again make history, but for very different reasons.

The oddsmakers at SportsBetting.ag have confirmed that the Giants are historic underdogs this week, and the +16.5 line that they are facing is the largest number ever asked of the G-Men.

Pulling records that date back as far as 1980, SportsBetting.ag also confirms that this is the largest Thursday Night Football spread they have ever posted, eclipsing the 15-point lines seen in 1992’s Giants at Cowboys and 2016’s Rams at Seahawks.

Bettors could likely see this line go higher by kickoff, with many bookmakers already increasing the line to 17, while MyBookie has gone as far as 17.5.

A Tale Of Two Franchises

If one were to refer to Tom Brady as the Super Man of the NFL, then the New York Giants should be seen as his kryptonite.

Love them or hate them, the New England Patriots have dominated the league since the dawn of the Brady-Belichick era began, and their impressive six Super Bowl winning campaigns makes them the most successful QB-Coach combination in the history of the NFL.

Despite the success enjoyed by the franchise over the years, Tom Brady’s trophy case would house two more Super Bowl rings if not for the two defeats he suffered at the hands of Eli Manning and the Giants.

Forget History, This Is Not Your Historic Pats-Giants Battle

While Tom Terrific is on pace for another stellar season, Eli has lost his starting job to rookie Daniel Jones, and while Jones has shown promise in his short stint under center, this will be his biggest test to date.

New England is off to an 5-0 start on the season, and while the media is always eager to tout Brady and his age-defying performances, it is the Patriots’ defense that is the true hero of this squad.

Allowing only 6.8 points per game, this defensive unit has not surrendered a passing touchdown all season while recording 11 interceptions. Otherwise, New England has only allowed an opponent to find the endzone twice all season while holding opposing offenses to 238.4 yards per game.

Daniel Jones has thrown for 760 yards since taking over at QB with four touchdowns and three interceptions on the way to his 2-1 record as the starter. Given the success the Patriots’ pass defense has seen, Jones’ 85.2 passer rating and 64% completion rate are sure to take a hit.

Not to mention that Bill Belichick has a perfect 11-0 record when facing rookie quarterbacks.

On the opposite sided of the ball, the Giants defensive unit has been porous at best this season, and given that Brady will likely be playing with a comfortable lead, do not expect this team to get sloppy while searching for points.

Expect the Patriots running game to see plenty of action, with both Sony Michel and James White likely seeing their number called repeatedly throughout the game.
